The Lowdown on Hair Removal

ALL ABOUT OUR HAIR REMOVAL METHODS
This page will help explain the process of laser hair removal.

Laser hair removal is one of the leading methods of removal on the market today, however, it is not for every body!!!  Here are a few key points to consider if you are thinking about laser hair removal:

  • HAIR COLOR

The lasers we use, the Candela Alexandrite and ND:yag, only recognizes dark pigment.  If there is no pigment in the target hair (reds, blondes or grays) the laser will not recognize those hair and there will be no results.  Therefore, only clients with darker hair growth will gain results from the laser. For the non targeted hair growth, we can use the electrolysis method, which will remove of all hair types/colors.  Electrolysis is extremely time consuming and tedious, so we like to save only the hairs that the laser will not effect for this method.

  • WILL I HAVE TO SHAVE ANYMORE AND IS IT PERMANENT?

The answer to both of those is NO!!!  Once you start laser, you will be directed not to shave/wax/tweeze the area being treated anymore.  Laser hair removal is not permanent hair removal, its is permanent hair reduction.  The laser enters into the pigmented hair follicle, and destroys the derma papilla (the main vein to the shaft).  Removal is a process of elimination of all of the hair cycles, so therefore it requires multiple treatments since your hair isn't growing all at once. The best time to treat and destroy the derma papilla is in the growth stage (there are three stages of hair growth).  Treatments are given in 4-6 week intervals and 6-8 full coverage treatments are required to clear an area.  Once all full coverage treatments are completed, maintenance may be required for continued clearance of soft fine, extremely sporadic regrowth, if any.  Hormones play a tremendous part in male patterning hair growth for women.  For those of you that suffer from conditions such as Polycystic ovarian syndrome, Cushings disease, thyroid issues or excessive testosterone, then you will love laser hair removal and electrolysis.  I have treated many women who are driven crazy and embarrassed by their facial, abdomen, back and chest hair.  This is a true life saver for those inconvenienced by these conditions and more.

  • WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

There are no side effects that are conclusive.  There are a few factors that can cause scabbing and irritations if not reported to the technician at the time of treatment however.  You must avoid the sun at least 2-4 weeks prior to treatment.  Remember, the laser seeks melanin for destruction and it DOES NOT differentiate between hair and skin.  So you might want to think twice about tanning prior to you having treatment....you could end up with a nasty burn and pain if you don't follow the rules!!!  With that being said, darker skin types are harder to treat.  We have the capabilities to treat both dark and light skin types; we have the alexandrite for the lighter skin tones and the ND:yag for the darker tones.
